There are 18 species of lesser apes, known as gibbons (genus Hylobates). The label picture is of a Bornean white-bearded gibbon (Hylobates albibarbis). Most, if not all gibbon species are endangered due to habitat loss (deforestation), illegal hunting and the commercial bushmeat trade. Habitat conservation is a long term conservation priority.
