Like rhino horn also made of keratin, pangolin scales have no proven medical value. Despite this, the scales are still used in traditional medicines, making the Pangolin’s existence severely threatened by poaching. As such they are currently the most trafficked non-human mammal on Planet Earth. Although they look like anteaters and armadillos, Pangolins are more closely related to bears, cats, and dogs.
